Software for the TextBlade

The TextBlade is highly configurable and customizable to suit a particular users needs.

This is the software that is built-in to the TextBlade hardware. As new features are implemented new firmware is often needed. The TextBlade supports Over-the-Air (OTA) updates of the firmware via the TextBlade app. Applying an OTA update is done using the TextBlade app; it requires an active internet connection; and typically takes about 10-15 minutes.

Here is information about recent releases of the TextBlade firmware.

The TextBlade app is used to communicate with the TextBlade.

Currently there is only a iOS version of the TextBlade app that has been released. The app requires iOS v8 or later. WayTools have stated that versions of the TextBlade app for other common platforms (e.g. Android, MacOS, Windows) are planned to be released in the future.

The TextBlade app can be used to:

  • Update the firmware OTA
  • Configure settings
  • Configure Jumps
  • Configure Maps
  • Configure Macros
  • Practice in the typing sandbox
  • Run tests
  • Communicate with WayTools

The ability to do advanced customization is being referred to as the MultiMap capability. It is not clear at the moment exactly which capabilities are available only to MultiMap-enabled TextBlades. All initial orders receive MultiMap for free as part of their order so the distinction is not currently important.
